Encountering the Living Abenaki Heritage
Our Story
Our story is rooted in transmission. Located in Odanak, on ancestral Abenaki territory, the Enseignement Abénaki Institute was created in response to an urgent need: to better understand, better listen to, and better recognize Indigenous voices — those that often do not find their place in official channels.
Founded in 2019 by Traditional Elders Réjean OBomsawin and Jacinthe Laliberté—both Knowledge Keepers and authors—the Institute offers training programs, lectures, and events grounded in Abenaki traditions and history.
Together, they pursue a clear goal: to provide a thoughtful and caring learning space where dialogue between Peoples is possible, respectful, and lasting.

Our Ancestors Taught Us That Sharing Knowledge Requires Four Essential Values:
Listening
Create inclusive and respectful spaces where every voice is heard
Time
Give each circular teaching the time it needs to mature
Heart
Receive Knowledge with openness, cultivating kindness
Commitment
Be actively involved in the transmission and vitality of our communities
Our Approach to teaching Indigenous Knowledge

At Enseignement Abénaki, learning unfolds at each person’s own pace. The transmission is rooted in oral traditions, living memory, and human connection.
Our trainings, offered online or in person, are guided by Indigenous Elder instructors. Each session becomes an immersive experience, enriched with maps, images, audio excerpts, and meaningful dialogue.
Aligned with the seasons and natural cycles, our cultural calendar reflects Indigenous realities. It creates a space conducive to listening, reflection, and integration.
Here, learning happens differently: with flexibility, outside of tourist or conventional models, according to your intentions and your way of learning.
